Summer Band Camp Information

Dear Ranchview Band Parents and Students,

Our summer band rehearsals are fast approaching. We will kick off the rehearsals with our percussion students this Thursday and Friday from 8am to 4pm. Our leaders will also be helping get everything ready for the upcoming summer band camp this Thursday and Friday. The Ranchview Band Leadership Team will be meeting on Thursday and Friday getting music ready, getting rooms set up, preparing instruments to be checked out, and perfecting their teaching skills.

Summer Band Camp Is Coming

ALL members of the Ranchview band are required to be here at Ranchview High School this coming Monday, July 30, 2018 starting at 8am. Below is a daily schedule for Week 1 of our summer band camp days. We will email the schedule for week 2 and 3 next week.

Week 1 Daily Schedule - July 30 through August 3 - 8am to 4pm

  • 8am – 11am – Outside Marching Rehearsal

  • 11am – 12pm – Lunch

  • 12pm – 2pm – Master Classes with Private Staff

  • 2pm – 4pm – Inside Full Band Rehearsal

What to Bring for Summer Band Camp

Below is a list of items that you will need for our summer rehearsals. We will be outside in the morning. It should be cooler outside in the morning than in the afternoon, however it is still very important that every student bring water for rehearsals, sunscreen, and wear proper attire. Please look at our list below.

Items Needed for Summer Band Camp

  • WATER (1-gallon jug) – This is VERY important. Please do not come to rehearsal without water. You will need this throughout the day. Our veteran members will need to bring their blue jug. Freshmen will get their blue jugs later during the month of August. If you do not have a blue jug, we ask you to please bring whatever color one-gallon jug they would like. If you do not have one, you can purchase one at any store for around $10.

  • T-Shirt and athletic Shorts – It is very important that you dress for the hot weather. Please DO NOT come to rehearsal in jeans. We highly suggest a light-colored t-shirt and athletic shorts of your choice.

  • Tennis Shoes – This is also very important. We will be teaching you how to march. It is very hard to march in flip flops, sandals, etc. All students must be in tennis shoes for rehearsals.

  • Sunscreen – You do not want to be sunburned. So please bring sunscreen

  • Hat and sunglasses – This is not required, but HIGHLY encouraged

  • Instrument – You will need your own personal instrument or one of our school owned marching instruments. If you have not checked out one of our school owned instruments, please read the information below about checking one out.

  • Music – Please bring any music that you have for next year. If you do not have music, please do not worry. You will receive your music when you arrive.

  • Lunch – We highly encourage all students to bring their lunch to eat during our lunch break.

  • Black Towel - All veteran members please bring your black towels. Freshmen will be issued a black towel during the first week.

Master Classes

We will be having master classes during the first week of summer band camp. We have worked very hard to make sure each instrument has a professional musician/teacher instructing all our students basic to advanced fundamentals and working on various music including your marching show and all-region music. We have hired some of the best and most talented teachers to instruct you on how to better play your instrument. We ask that all students be cooperative, attentive, respectful, and ready to learn. We are very excited to have these teachers come and teach you.

School Owned Instruments

If you are a freshman or you are new to our program and you do not have a school owned instrument, we will be assigning you your instrument on Monday when you arrive. We will have a form for you to fill out. Afterwards you will be issued an instrument to use. If you have any questions about school owned instruments, please email Mr. Myers at myersj@cfbisd.edu

We are very excited to see all of you next Monday. If you have any questions about the upcoming summer band camp, please email Mr. Myers as soon as possible at myersj@cfbisd.edu.

Sincerely, The Ranchview Band Staff www.ranchviewband.org
